In 1851 the first grapes were planted in the Clare Valley, north of Adelaide. The region has been producing wine ever since and is famous for its renowned Riesling. Today there are more than 40 cellar doors along a narrow 40 kilometre corridor between Auburn and Clare. The Clare showgrounds are just 2 kilometres down the street from the town centre and is the community hub for events such as the Clare Gourmet Weekend, Vintners Picnic, the Clare Show and the monthly Clare Market.
